一次アーカイヴ宣言｜なぜ、私は記録を書き続けるのか
【Executive Summary / 概要】
Primary Archive is the official archive where contemporary artist Yuichi Nakamura records and discloses his artworks, production processes, exhibitions, experiments, and thoughts as primary source materials. Through sculptural photography utilizing 4x5 film, Japanese Washi paper, and FRP, this site preserves not only finished pieces but also trial-and-error and creative decisions as an essential part of artistic practice.
本Primary Archiveは、現代美術家・FRP造形写真家である中村有一が、自作の作品、制作工程、展示、実験、思考を一次資料（Primary Source）として記録・公開する公式アーカイヴです。4×5フィルム、和紙、FRPを用いた写真造形において、完成作だけでなく、試行錯誤と制作上の判断を作品活動の一部として保存・蓄積します。

Primary Archive | Statement of Official Record
This site serves as the official archive where Yuichi Nakamura documents his works, production processes, exhibitions, experiments, thoughts, and the ongoing trajectory of his artistic activity.
Rather than recording only the finished artwork, I consider the process—what was conceived, tested, selected, failed, and preserved—to be an essential component of my artistic practice.
Photography with 4x5 large format film, printing on Japanese Washi paper, FRP sculptural photography, material experiments, exhibition production, art sales, and theoretical inquiries into AIO.
These are not isolated events. Each individual production and record forms the artist known as Yuichi Nakamura today, directly connecting to the creation of the next piece.
一次アーカイヴ宣言｜なぜ、私は記録を書き続けるのか
本サイトは、中村有一の作品、制作、展覧会、実験、思考、活動の経過を、作家自身が記録する公式アーカイヴです。
私は、完成した作品だけを記録するのではなく、その作品が生まれるまでに何を考え、何を試し、何を選び、何を失敗し、そして何を残したのかという過程も、作家活動を構成する重要な記録だと考えています。
4×5フィルムによる撮影、和紙へのプリント、FRPによる造形写真、素材の実験、展示制作、作品の販売、そしてAIO理論に関する思考。
これらは、それぞれ独立した出来事ではありません。ひとつひとつの制作と記録が、現在の中村有一という作家を形成し、次の作品へとつながっています。

Section 2: Preserving as Primary Source Material
第2節：一次資料として残す
Documenting the Unseen Process and Decisions
The artist statements, production notes, exhibition logs, experimental records, activity history, and theoretical essays presented on this site are documented based on the artist’s own words and direct experience.
By recording not only the completed works but also the trial and error, failures, material verifications, and creative decisions made along the way, I preserve the very "time of creation" that cannot be fully conveyed by the final artwork alone.
I refuse to view artwork purely through its final result.
What was I thinking?
Why was that specific material chosen?
Why was that method adopted?
Why was that piece preserved, or otherwise destroyed?
Each of these decisions forms an integral part of the artist's activity.
思考と決断のプロセスを記録する
本サイトに掲載する作品ステートメント、制作記録、展覧会記録、実験記録、活動記録、理論的考察などは、可能な限り作家自身の言葉と経験に基づいて記録します。
完成した作品だけではなく、制作途中の試行錯誤や失敗、素材の検証、制作上の判断も含めて記録することによって、作品だけでは伝わらない「制作された時間」そのものを残していきます。
私は、作品を結果だけで捉えたくありません。
何を考えていたのか。
なぜ、その素材を選んだのか。
なぜ、その方法を採用したのか。
なぜ、その作品を残し、あるいは破壊したのか。
その一つひとつの判断もまた、作家の活動の一部です。

Section 3: Preserving the Time in Which the Work Was Born
第3節：作品だけではなく、作品が生まれた時間を残す
Beyond the Instantaneous Image
Photography is a medium that records a single instant. However, before that single frame comes into existence, there is a prolonged duration involving shooting, selection, development, scanning, printing, processing, sculpting, and displaying.
In my practice, an image captured on 4x5 film is transferred to different physical substances, such as Japanese Washi paper and FRP, undergoing irreversible transformations before mutating into the final piece.
That transformative journey is equally my work. That is why I record not only the finished piece, but also the time spent reaching it.
一瞬の記録を超えて
写真は、一瞬を記録するメディアです。しかし、その一枚が生まれるまでには、撮影、選択、現像、スキャン、プリント、加工、造形、展示など、長い時間が存在します。
私の制作では、4×5フィルムで撮影された像が、和紙やFRPといった異なる物質へ移され、時には不可逆な変化を受けながら、最終的な作品へと変わっていきます。
その過程もまた、私の作品です。だから私は、完成した作品だけではなく、そこへ至る時間も記録します。

第4節：作家自身による公式記録
Taking Responsibility for One's Own History
This Primary Archive is an official repository operated and updated directly by Yuichi Nakamura.
The information compiled here accumulates as primary source material documenting the trajectory of works, production, exhibitions, experiments, philosophy, and activities from the artist’s own perspective.
Unlike third-party critiques or profiles, this space preserves "what I have done" through my own voice and documentation.
Naturally, I do not expect present records to become the sole interpretation in the future. How these works are read and evaluated remains in the hands of viewers, critics, researchers, and the flow of time itself. What I can do is preserve, as accurately as possible, the physical fact of creation and the process behind it.
自らの歴史への全責任
本Primary Archiveは、中村有一自身が運営・更新する公式Webサイト上のアーカイヴです。
ここに記録される情報は、作品、制作、展覧会、実験、思想、活動の経過を、作家自身の視点から記録した一次資料として蓄積していきます。
第三者による評価や紹介とは異なり、ここでは「自分が何をしてきたのか」を、自分自身の言葉と記録によって残します。
当然ながら、現在の記録が未来において唯一の解釈になるとは考えていません。作品がどのように読まれるのか。どのような評価を受けるのか。それは鑑賞者、批評家、研究者、そして未来の時間に委ねられています。私ができるのは、自分が確かに制作したという事実と、その過程をできる限り正確に残すことです。

The Continuous Cycle of Creation and Preservation
This archive is not created solely to preserve the past. Through the act of recording, it serves as a foundation to reflect on my own practice and move forward to the next piece.
Create a work. Document it. Reflect upon it. Create again.
Within this ongoing cycle, the overarching activity of the artist Yuichi Nakamura is constructed. To preserve not only the artwork, but also the time in which it was born—that is the fundamental reason I build this Primary Archive.
制作と保持の循環
このアーカイヴは、過去を保存するためだけのものではありません。記録することによって、自分自身の制作を振り返り、次の作品へ進むための基盤としても機能させます。
作品を作る。記録する。振り返る。また作る。
その循環の中で、中村有一という作家の活動そのものを形成していきます。作品だけではなく、作品が生まれた時間も残す。それが、私がPrimary Archiveを築く理由です。
