京都・AMS Galleryで自分の作品と対峙した日

I traveled to AMS Picture Gallery in Kyoto to observe my exhibited works firsthand.

自分の出展作を確かめるため、京都・AMS Picture Galleryへと足を運んだ。

The pieces presented this time belong to the "Untouchable Distance" series, captured on 4x5 large-format monochrome film and finished with hand-coloring.

今回展示した作品は、4×5の大判モノクロフィルムで撮影し、手彩色を施した《触れられない距離》シリーズである。

Why lay colors over a world captured in 4x5 monochrome?

"The suffocating pain of being unable to breathe underwater"—I wanted to elevate this raw sensation beyond monochrome shadows, bringing it to life through the irreversible intervention of hand-coloring. It was a craftsmanship intended to anchor physical weight and an "untouchable distance" onto the surface of a photograph.

4×5のモノクロで捉えた世界に、なぜあえて色を重ねたのか。

「水の中では息ができない苦しさ」――その生々しい感覚を、単なるモノクロの陰影だけに留めず、手彩色という不可逆な介入によって画面に立ち昇らせたかったからだ。それは写真という表面的な画像に対し、皮膚感覚の重みと「触れられない距離」を定着させるための手仕事でもあった。

At the venue, I stood directly face-to-face with the completed wooden panel works.

会場で、完成した木製パネルの作品と直に向き合った。

And there is one more thing that left a strong impression on me this time. Someone I know traveled all the way to Kyoto to see my work in person. Me, heading to Kyoto to see my own work, and them, coming all the way to Kyoto to see it. That simple fact made me genuinely happy. When creating art, I often find myself focusing solely on what I've managed to leave behind or how well I've expressed myself. However, having someone use their time, travel from afar, and stand directly before my work was something deeply significant to me as an artist. Thank you so much for coming all the way. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

そして今回、もう一つ強く残ったことがある。遠方から、私の知り合いがわざわざ京都まで足を運び、実際にこの作品を見てくれた。自分の作品を見に行くために京都へ向かった私と、私の作品を見るために京都まで来てくれた人。その事実が、素直に嬉しかった。作品を作っていると、つい自分が何を残せたのか、自分がどう表現できたのかということばかり考えてしまう。でも、誰かが時間を使い、遠くから足を運び、目の前で作品を見てくれる。それは、作品を作っている自分にとって、とても大きなことだった。遠いところまで来てくれて、本当にありがとう。心から感謝しています。

Driven by the time spent confronting my work in person, I will continue to carve deeper into my own expression.

現場で作品と向き合えたこの時間を原動力に、より深く己の表現を削り出していきたい。
