クロス展6に向けて ― なぜFRPを引き算するのか

2026年10月に開催される「クロス展6」に向けて、新しい作品制作が始まります。

それに伴い、今回は「モデル募集」というよりも、一緒に作品を作ってくれる共同制作者を募集したいと思っています。

SNSの短い文章だけでは伝わらない部分があるため、今回の企画について少し書いてみます。

今回の企画で、僕自身が一番楽しみにしているのは、ヘアメイク・スタイリストの中村亜衣さんとの共同制作です。

PASHA STYLEやPROMOGRAPHの撮影を通して、僕は何度も亜衣さんに助けられてきました。

僕が気付いていない部分を先に見つけてくれたり、無駄な方向へ進みそうな時には途中で軌道修正してくれたりします。

また、作品のテーマや方向性について事前にしっかり共有すると、そのイメージをヘアメイクやスタイリングとしてきちんと再現してくれます。

現場の空気を柔らかくし、被写体が自然に作品へ入っていける環境を作ってくれることも、亜衣さんの大きな力だと思っています。

結果として、僕一人で撮影するよりも作品の完成度が大きく上がります。

これまで僕は写真にFRPを介入させる作品を中心に制作してきました。

でも今回は、あえてそのFRPを引き算します。

亜衣さんの持つ人物表現の力を正面から受け止め、

人をテーマにした作品を一緒に作ってみたいと思いました。

作品展示は和紙で表現したいと思います。

今回の作品は和紙にプリントします。

和紙は光をただ反射するのではなく、少し奥へ受け止めてくれるような不思議な素材です。 デジタルの写真とは違う時間の流れや、人の温度のようなものがそこに残る気がしています。

FRPを引き算した今の自分には、この素材が必要でした。 亜衣さんのヘアメイクと、被写体の持つ空気や時間を、和紙という素材の上に定着させたいと思っています。 これは僕自身にとっても新しい人物表現への挑戦です

なぜ「共同制作者」を募集するのか

今回の募集は、ギャランティの発生する商業案件ではありません。

また、一般的な無償の作品撮りとも少し違います。

スタジオ代や展示費用、プリント代、額装代などの制作費については、

こちらで負担します。

僕たちが探しているのは、「撮られる人」ではありません。

作品を一緒に面白がってくれる人です。

撮影だけではなく、

「どんな作品にする？？」

「どんな空気が生まれるだろう」

そんなことを一緒に考えながら並走してくれる方と出会えたら嬉しいと思っています。

だから今回は、「モデル募集」という言葉ではなく、「共同制作者」という言葉を選びました。

どんな人と出会いたいか

ファインアートに興味がある方。

中村亜衣のヘアメイクを通して、新しい自分に出会ってみたい方。

写真や美術の経験は問いません。

僕たちの作品づくりや考え方に少しでも共感していただけたら十分です。

性別や経験も問いません。

ただ、今回は一つのチームとして時間をかけて作品を作っていくため、

お互いの約束を大切にできる方、丁寧なコミュニケーションを取れる方とご一緒したいと思っています。

お互いを尊重しながら、気持ちよく、そして楽しく制作の時間を共有できたら嬉しいです。

大切なのは、一枚の写真の中に、その人の時間や存在がきちんと残ることだと思っています。

Project Statement: Toward "Cross Exhibition 6" — The Subtraction of FRP

Introduction

In anticipation of the upcoming "Cross Exhibition 6" scheduled for October 2026, a new artistic endeavor is underway. For this specific project, the objective shifts from a conventional "model call" toward a search for creative collaborators who will actively engage in the co-creation of the artwork. Given the limitations of social media in conveying the nuanced conceptual framework of this initiative, this statement serves to articulate the underlying philosophy and objectives of the project.

Collaborative Rationale with Ai Nakamura

A central and highly anticipated dimension of this project is the collaboration with hair and makeup artist/stylist Ai Nakamura (a freelance artist and alumna of Tokyo Visual Arts, specializing in Video and Stage Makeup).

Through previous photographic engagements with PASHA STYLE and PROMOGRAPH, Ms. Nakamura’s contributions have consistently proven indispensable. Her practice is characterized by a keen perceptiveness that identifies latent creative opportunities, alongside a capacity for course correction that prevents the creative process from deviating into redundancy. When the conceptual theme and direction are communicated a priori, she meticulously translates these abstract ideas into tangible hair, makeup, and styling.

Furthermore, her ability to cultivate a psychologically safe and fluid environment on site allows subjects to naturally integrate themselves into the narrative of the work. Consequently, this collaborative synergy significantly elevates the resolution and execution of the final artwork beyond what could be achieved individually.

Historically, my artistic practice has centered on a methodology that intervenes in photography through the integration of Fiber-Reinforced Plastics (FRP). In this current iteration, however, I am deliberately executing a "subtraction" of FRP. By omitting this material intervention, the objective is to directly confront and embrace Ms. Nakamura’s capacity for human expression, thereby pivoting the thematic focus entirely toward the human subject.

The Materiality of Washi (Japanese Paper)

The medium selected for the final prints of this series is Washi (traditional Japanese paper), chosen to evoke the aesthetic principles of wabi-sabi (the beauty of impermanence and imperfection).

Washi exhibits unique material properties; rather than merely reflecting incident light, it absorbs and holds the light within its dimensional texture. This creates a temporal deceleration and retains a somatic warmth distinct from digital photographic media. For my current practice—having subtracted FRP—this specific materiality is essential. The intention is to permanently fix Ms. Nakamura’s styling and the unique temporal atmosphere embodied by the subject onto the organic surface of the washi. This represents a significant methodological shift and a new challenge in my exploration of human representation.

Defining "Co-creators" over "Models"

This initiative is strictly a non-commercial, fine-art project; it does not operate on a commercial guarantee basis. Concurrently, it diverges from standard pro-bono or promotional portfolio shoots (ujin-bako). All institutional and material overheads—including studio fees, exhibition costs, printing, and framing—will be fully subsidized by the organizers.

The ideal participant is not viewed merely as a passive "photographic subject," but rather as an active agent who shares an intellectual and aesthetic curiosity in the evolution of the work. The expectation extends beyond the act of posing; it entails a shared intellectual companionship during the discursive phases: What form will this artwork take? What kind of atmospheric resonance will emerge?

To reflect this egalitarian and participatory dynamic, the term "co-creator" has been deliberately selected over "model."

Desired Participant Profiles

• Individuals with a sustained interest in the field of Fine Art.

• Those interested in exploring alternative facets of self-identity through the artistic lens of Ai Nakamura’s hair and makeup styling.

Prior experience in photography or the fine arts is not a prerequisite. Alignment with and empathy toward the project’s conceptual framework and methodology are sufficient. No restrictions are placed on gender or prior background.

However, because this project demands a sustained temporal commitment within a cohesive team structure, a high premium is placed on mutual reliability and rigorous, deliberate communication. The goal is to share a creative space that is mutually respectful, harmonious, and intellectually stimulating. Ultimately, the core objective is to ensure that the subject's distinct temporal presence and existential essence are indelibly captured within a single photographic frame.

Project & Application Guidelines

• Project Title: Production for "Cross Exhibition 6" (Scheduled for October 2026)

• Creative Directors: Yuichi Nakamura (Photographer/Artist) × Ai Nakamura (Hair & Makeup Artist/Stylist)

• Engagement: Pre-production consultation, photographic sessions, and exhibition participation.

• Financial Terms: Production, printing, and exhibition expenses are fully covered by the organizers. (Non-commercial, fine-art collaboration).

• Application Deadline: June 30, 2026 (Subject to adjustment based on preliminary consultations).

Post-Application Process

Following the closing date at the end of June, the creative team will review applications and sequentially contact individuals whose artistic alignment matches the vision of the project.
